Why convert PNG to WebP?

PNG is lossless and great for sharp graphics and transparency, but the files are large. WebP keeps the transparency and the crisp edges while cutting the size dramatically — often by more than half for logos, icons, and UI screenshots. That means faster pages without the visible quality trade-off you’d get from flattening to JPG.

Will I lose the transparent background?

No. WebP has a full alpha channel, so a transparent PNG converts to a transparent WebP. If you ever need the PNG back, the reverse direction restores it.

Frequently asked questions

Does WebP keep PNG transparency?

Yes. WebP supports an alpha channel, so transparent PNGs stay transparent after conversion — usually at a much smaller file size than the original PNG.

How much smaller is WebP than PNG?

For graphics, logos, and screenshots, WebP is often 60–80% smaller than a lossless PNG, and still smaller for photos. Exact savings depend on the image.

Can I convert WebP back to PNG?

Yes — use the direction dropdown for WebP → PNG. Transparency is preserved both ways.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The conversion runs on your device with the Canvas API. Nothing is sent to a server.

Can I convert many PNGs at once?

Yes — drop a batch and download a ZIP. Extra-large drops process about 50 at a time; drop again for the rest.
