Why a plain wall isn't always enough
Most passport and visa notices require a plain white or light background — but not everyone has a clean wall or studio backdrop available. This tool detects the person in your photo with an AI model and replaces whatever is actually behind them, so a photo taken anywhere can still get a compliant white background. Transparent background PNG
Choosing Transparent (PNG) leaves the background empty instead of filling it with a colour, which is what you want when the cut-out has to sit on top of something else — a slide, a product listing, a logo, or a design you will place it into later. The checkerboard in the preview is not part of the image; it is how the empty area is drawn on screen.
Transparency only survives in a format that supports an alpha channel, so the download switches to PNG automatically when you pick it. Saving a cut-out as JPEG cannot preserve it — JPEG has no alpha channel at all, and the see-through area comes back filled in, usually black. That surprises people often enough to be worth stating outright.
For a passport or visa photo, pick a solid colour rather than transparent. Those applications specify a plain white or light background, and a PNG with an empty background will either be rejected or be filled with whatever the printing service defaults to.

The AI model runs locally in your browser via WebAssembly — self-hosted, not fetched from a third-party CDN. Your photo is analyzed on your device and is not uploaded to our servers for processing.
