Compress Image to an Exact KB Target
Published July 19, 2026By Samson PG
Quality sliders guess. Exact-KB compression keeps iterating until the file is under your portal’s number — privately on your device.
Exact-KB compression means shrinking a JPG/PNG/WebP until the file size is at or under a number the form prints — 20KB, 50KB, 100KB, 500KB — instead of picking a vague “quality 60.”
Quick answer
Open TryQuickImg Compress Image, set your target KB (or use a preset like /compress-to-100kb/), drop the photo, and download when the output fits. files are not uploaded to our servers for processing.
This guide is about the workflow for any target. For portal-specific writeups see 100KB job forms, 50KB passport/visa, and 200KB email.
Why exact KB beats quality presets
| Approach | Problem |
|---|---|
| Fixed quality 70 | Bright photos may be 80KB; dark ones 300KB |
| “Save for web” | Unknown final size |
| Target 100KB | Stops when the byte budget is met |
Workflow for any limit
- Crop and resize to required pixels first if the form lists them (Crop, Resize).
- Prefer JPG for photos; convert PNG/HEIC/AVIF first if needed.
- Set the exact KB from the notice.
- If the face looks muddy, relax the target slightly or start from a sharper, smaller-pixel crop — do not upscale junk.
- Confirm the downloaded file’s size in Explorer / Finder before upload.
Typical targets
| KB | Often used for |
|---|---|
| 20–50 | Strict ID / some bank & exam slots |
| 100 | Many job portals |
| 200 | Email / looser ATS |
| 500+ | Less common photo caps |
Preset landings also exist under /compress-to-{n}kb/ for quick entry points.
Privacy: compression runs in the browser. ID and resume photos are not uploaded to our servers for processing on TryQuickImg.
Also useful: Strip EXIF before sharing and job portal pipeline.
FAQ
Can every image hit 20KB?
Not at usable quality. Resize smaller first; accept that tiny caps need small pixels.
PNG or JPG for exact KB?
Photos → JPG. UI screenshots may stay PNG if the form allows and colours are flat.
Does the tool undershoot or exact-match?
It aims to land at or under the target. A few KB under is success for portals.
Is my image uploaded?
No. TryQuickImg compresses locally only.
