How the CAT signature spec compares
We track a signature specification for 14 exams. The CAT box is 472×207 px — about 2.3 times wider than it is tall, which is why a square crop of a signature almost always gets rejected here even when the file size is right. No other exam we track uses this exact box, so a signature prepared for a different application will need resizing rather than reuse.
The 10–80 KB file-size band is tighter than 3 of the exams we track and looser than 10 of them. Note that it sets a minimum of 10 KB as well as a maximum. Compressing below the floor is rejected exactly like exceeding the ceiling, so aim for the middle of the band rather than the smallest file you can produce.
Disclaimer: the official CAT notice always overrides these prep targets.
Frequently asked questions
What size should my CAT signature be?
Common prep target: 8×3.5 cm @ 150 dpi (472×207 px) · 3.15×1.38 in and 10–80 KB JPG on a white background. Confirm the current CAT notice — rules change by year.
How does white-background cleanup work?
The tool thresholds dark ink onto pure white in your browser so scanned signatures look portal-ready. The image is not uploaded to our servers for processing.
Is my signature uploaded?
No. TryQuickImg processes the image locally — not uploaded to our servers for processing. After the page loads you can go offline and still finish.
Where this spec comes from
These figures are commonly-cited ranges, read from the official notice by hand and re-checked on a set date — nothing here is scraped, so a number never changes without a person confirming it. The notice for your own exam year always wins.
